Getting To Kyuquot. By Trina
|
We have to go in a boat in order to go to Campbell River or any other town. It takes about half an hour to get to Fair Harbour from Kyuquot. It costs about $70-$150 for a boat ride to Fair Harbour. The water taxi boats are up to 30 feet long. We phone the taxi drivers to make arrangements with
them. In order to get freight here, like for the stores and whatnot, we order it in with the Uchuck, which is a coastal freighter. The Uchuck also carries tourists and kayakers. It costs about $55 to get from Gold River to Kyuquot. The airplane comes in three times a week. It comes in on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. For 3 or 5 passengers to get here from Gold River it costs about $125. Me and my family go to town by boat it takes about half an hour. Then we stop in Fair Harbour then we unpack all the stuff out of the boat. Then we go in a vehicle to Campbell River it takes us about 3 or 4 hours to get there. We go to Campbell River to shop for groceries.

Sales in Kyuquot
by Chantelle |
Sometimes in Kyuquot we have garage sales and bake
sales. The garage sale is when you are selling cloths, furniture, toys,
and old junk. At bake sales they go really crazy selling chummis. Chummis is really sweet food like as pies, squares, cup cakes, cakes, and a lot more sweet stuff. A lot of people here in k-town they make really good sweet food like as Natalie, Mrs. Larre, Shirley, Janice, Larissa, Patsy, and more people. Sometimes people sell dinners at their houses. When they sell food or clothes they do it to make money for going to town or to buy food that why they do it. In Kyuquot we have a lot of really GOOD bakes sales and garage sales. |

The General Store
by Brandon |
We have a general store here in Kyuquot. The general
store is owned by a lady named Susie Bostrom. Susie grew up here in
Kyuquot. The general store sells electronic stuff, food, toys and etc. The
general store is the biggest store here in Kyuquot. The general store is
on another island the island it is on is called “Walters Island.” To
get to the store you have to go by boat. The general store is only about 20 by 30 ft. The
general store has only 3 aisles. The one on the right sells hardware stuff
and the one in the middle sells food, and the one on the left sells
clothes. The stuff that’s in the store comes from a big boat called the
Uchuck III. The Uchuck comes in every Thursday; to bring the
groceries and freight – when a person needs to bring something heavy on
a small boat they get the people to bring it on the Uchuck. Some students
have jobs in the general store and they help bring the groceries in the
store. |

Kyuquot School
by Randy |
There are about 48
students at the Kyuquot School. There’s a gym, 4 portables, and 1 main
part of the school. There are 3 bathrooms, an office, and a library, 3
classrooms, and a janitor’s room. We play basketball, badminton, floor hockey,
volleyball, and floor soccer in the gym. We hold gym nights, but it sucks
because the adults don’t let us play and we let them play, and when they
do they make the rules as they play. We get adults’ volleyball on
Mondays, badminton on Tuesdays, and basketball on Wednesdays, on Thursdays
sometimes there’s badminton or sometimes there’s volleyball, and on
Fridays there’s floor Hockey. Each
class has 3 grades. The first three grades are grades are 1,2,3. The next
three classes are 4,5,6. The next three classes are 7,8,9. The next and
last three classes are 10,11,12. In the first class have 12 children in
the 1,2,3. There are 7kids in the 4,5,6. The next class there’s suppose
to be 10 students in the 7,8,9. The very last class has We get to use the computers on Tuesdays, or Thursdays after school. We get them on the weekends sometimes. Mr. Rockwell lets us in the computer. |
